Lavender essential oil – My Swiss Army Knife

By on March 15, 2016

I had a phase where I collected Swiss Army knife. Had it in various colors and sizes. Would always have one with me at all time. I still have it with my carkeys now. But now have my very own version of “Swiss Army Knife”, even my elder 2 bring it to school . No one should be without it!

Lavender essential oil is my new ‘ Swiss Army Knife’ because there are a multitude of uses for it. Lavender is universally regarded as the most versatile essential oil.Known for its antiseptic, antifungal, analgesic, antitumoral, anticonvulsant, sedative,anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory properties.

It has come in handy in various situation for me. I used it when Uzair fried chicken and had cooking oil merecik to his face, on Uwais who had leaf-cut (ya people usually get paper cut but he had leaf-cut… he was pulling some leaves from the ground to feed the goats), on harith’s hand who touched the motor exhaust (managed to avoid from any burnt blister to happen on all occasion that involve burnt, mashaa Allah), on the kids who often have falls, bruise, cuts and bumps (yup, somehow those 4 are just too common in my household ) . It helps stop bleeding of the cut and has healing properties (my kids often help prepare meals, cuts do happen). Few months ago, i had some guests over…was in the kitchen do prepare some drinks, and my friend confusedly said “munirah…your son is crying in the room..and screaming ‘ lavender, lavender, lavender’ “. I was like “ohh..die jatuh lah tu. asking for lavender nak apply” . Went to the room to check on him…true enough…uwais jatuh tegolek.

Useful for bedtime too. Recently, I helped put 3 babies to sleep at a wedding. After finish eating, helped to carry a baby so the mom can have her dinner, applied some lavender on the baby…and off to lalaland in 15 mins. Helped carry the next baby to allow another mom have her hands free to enjoy dinner…and again another baby fall asleep in 15 mins. And next thing I know, another mom passed me her baby, hihi. Third baby..took me less than 10mins J. It has a calming effect on the central nervous system , a great aid for relaxing and winding down before bedtime. Oh, not to forget how useful it is for allergies. Also a great after sun relief. I also use it for my laundry.

Oh, and for the most common thingy among babies n kids, cold n flu.

Lots of other uses.

Lavender is so versatile…whenever it doubt, we use lavender!

How I started Young Living Essential Oil for my boy

By on April 20, 2015

” He is strong and will grow bigger and stronger, but u are small in size…soon you will have trouble handling him. You may need to consider giving him medication soon.” those were the words of Uzair’s doctor when we had his follow up check-up early last year.

” Errr…do let me try everything first before i resort to drugs ” i replied.

Few days later someone told me about Young Living essential oil. I was telling to myself “just when I’m about to search for something, (before i starts Uzair on medication)…this essential oil pops up. this must be Allah’s guidance” . And obviously, next thing i did was to ask Mr Google. Started typing on google ” Young Living Essential Oil and Autism ” and “Young Living Essential Oils ADHD” ,  I came across lots of blogs, parents of the same boat as I am. One of the blogs i stumbled upon, i felt goose bump while reading it…i was like “gosh, this entry is as though i am writing about uzair!” The mom’s descriptions, stories and experience sound exactly how uzair was behaving and what we were going through.

Being desperate for solution ( and a lil kiasu i suppose)  i ended up getting all oils that mom was using on the boy. If im not mistaken there were about 9 oils all together. Unfortunately i didn’t see much different. I tried doing my own research and tried getting some help, but sadly uzair wasn’t progressing much. Somehow rather, i did not loose hope on the oils. I was thinking if lots of parents out there have successful stories of the essential oils, then the problem could be me; either wrong selection of the essential oils or wrongly applied. I then became more determined to do further research on these essential oils.

I heard about a therapist in Singapore,Yonie. Badly wanted to bring uzair to see her but with Syauqi’s and her busy schedules, we could not get any earlier slot. We finally met her in August, made a trip to Singapore. And from August 2014 till now, we’ve been getting guidance from the therapist, Yonie, Alhamdulillah. I also get connected with other moms who were very helpful. They share their experience and testimonials. And best part is….regardless which part of the world they are…everyone is just a “wats app” / “telegram” away. It is such motivation to see how other moms handle their kids. Their stories, guidance, suggestion in helping our kids are simply amazing. Its and endless support. Every now and then u be hearing from a mom telling us their new regime they using and u be “running” to get those oils too ( didn’t i just mention I’m kiasu :P). Or a simple sharing on getting the kids phlegm out.

The journey is still long for us. Though he is far from a 7 year old boy, but he has surely progress a lot since. He no longer sleeps wayyy past midnite. If i ended up getting into bed as early as 9pm, he would also get in and have no problem of soothing himself to sleep. This boy who was once a non verbal boy,  already requesting things verbally. Oh and most importantly, we no longer have to face those periods of tantrum. I pray for  more progress and improvement, inshaa Allah.

Uzair will be 7 years old in July, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and also ADHD when he was 3+. He is currently using Young Living Essential Oil. Weekly session of Craniosacral therapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy.

This year we place him in preschool , joining class of 4 years old and has Special Needs Teacher comes to the house daily for 2 hours.

Uzair and Two Wheel Bike

By on April 16, 2015

Since my other 3 kids are on 2 wheels bike, we removed the training wheels for all bikes and that left uzair with only the balancing bike. He didn’t like it before but since he was left with no other bikes, he started using it. After awhile he gets the idea where he needs to push with his legs and balance. Actually we do have one more bike for uzair with the training wheels but can’t fit 5 bikes in our Starex thus we choose to bring along the balancing bike with us since its on the smaller size, taking less space in the car.

After awhile, I notice he was pretty good at balancing…tried putting him on 2 wheels bike but he didn’t hv the confidence if i didn’t hold him. He ended up going back to his balancing bike and mastered it.

We were at my inlaws, and about to leave when i saw uzair trying to cycle a 2 wheel bike in the house. Immediately i told the husband…”you, he is into it…bring him out. bring him out! go bring him cycle”. It was about 930pm already, we were suppose to head home as it was time for the kids to hit the bed. However, i wanted to give a positive encouragement to the interest he was showing. Immediately the dad ajak die keluar along with the bike. Brother-in-law was of a great help. dia lah yang gigih bersemangat peganag uzair to get the hang of it. And to our surprise….he started paddling! Mashaa Allah.

Below is the video of his first time riding a 2 wheel bike

(i have no idea why i can’t seem to embed the video, and i don’t have much time to godek. thus, meanwhile u gonna have to click on the link below to see the video)

IMG_1057

He cycled and cycled and didn’t wanna stop. Had to promised him we will cycle again tomorrow morning and  “drag” him into the car. I would definitely give credit to balancing bike, in the video below, u could see his kaki telepas paddle but he could balance himself and continue paddle balik…for a beginner who just started cycling, he could maintain his balance even without paddling.

Him cycling the next morning,

(click on the link above, sorry u have to do manually, i can’t seem to get the video clip, pfft..dah tahap nak hempuk laptop ke wall ni, haha)

Its not necessary for you to buy a balancing bike, u may cabut the paddle of ur kid’s current bike 🙂

Uzair is turning 7 years old, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and also ADHD when he was 3+. He is currently using Young Living Essential Oil, once a week of Craniosacral therapy, weekly Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy.

We place him in preschool now, joining class of 4 years old and has Special Needs Teacher comes to the house daily for 2 hours.
